There are two ways of learning to fly. There’s the cheap way and there’s attending pilot training academy. The cheap way is to be taught by the military. It doesn’t cost you a cent and if you’re lucky you can get to see half of the world while you’re adding hours to your logbook. Unfortunately not everyone is suited to military flying, indeed, not everyone has any desire at all for that kind of life. Civilian flight training is not cheap, but if you are determined to enter the field of aviation there’s no alternative. You do have the choice of which pilot training academy to attend though, and without a shadow of doubt Loutzavia’s flight academy, which is located at Wonderboom Airport just outside Pretoria, has to be your number one choice.
The Loutzavia Pilot Training Academy operates out of the main terminal building at Wonderboom Airport and offers high calibre courses that start off at PPL level and go all the way up to ATPL. All of the courses at this pilot training academy are organized on a one-to-one basis, which means that once you start with a particular instructor, you usually do all of your flying with him. This not only allows personal attention, but also allows students to train at their own pace. Wonderboom Airport sits in a Control Zone under the Johannesburg TMA, which means that students get to see lots of other air traffic – there are more than 350 movements a day on average at Wonderboom. Lots of movements means lots of experience, and when this is backed up with the excellent training at Loutzavia, you can’t go wrong.
The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), a body that falls under the United Nations, authorises three essential pilot license courses that may be taught at civilian flying schools.
